Dauntless - Behemoth Guide - Quillshot

This is a strategy guide for the Quillshot Behemoth in Dauntless, a kill-boss-monster free-to-play game available from the Epic Games Store. We cover various Behemoths in our Dauntless Behemoth Strategy Guide.

Attack Phases

Not firing Quills
  • Try to stay on the tail. This seems to be the safest location.
  • If you are in front, you are generally more vulnerable to its swipes and spins.
  • If you are at the side, it likes to body block, or just fall over then launch spines horizontally.
  • The tail can be severed. But Deadeye Quillshots will then be able to kick backwards at you if you are at the tail.
Firing Quills
  • Start running and loop back to the Quillshot to attack it. If you reacted too late, you may need to Dodge first to get some distance before you start running.
    • This is the same if it rolls on its side to fire quills. When Enraged, it can fire several times, turning each time to track you.
  • When Enraged, it fires more quill volleys, so keep moving. Circle around to the head and Interrupt it there.
  • Deadeye Quillshots fire multiple volleys when it is lying on its side, even when not Enraged.
    • Dodge in the direction opposite the way the Quillshot is turning. For example, if it is turning to the right to fire again, you want to dodge left, because the Quillshot will not reverse direction once it's started. You should be safe from additional volleys and can race around to its tail or belly and attack it there.
  • Flameborn Quillshots fire quills that will explode. Once they are on the ground, you can knock them away with an attack. If they hit a Behemoth they will damage them.

Kat's Hunting Tips - Quillshot

  • The Quillshot's body is covered with quills that act as offensive weapons and defensive armour.
  • Break the spines growing from four distinct areas to neutralize the Quillshot's advantages, then break the exposed areas beneath.
  • A Quillshot can be interrupted by dealing heavy damage during a quill volley attack while it is enraged.

Kat's Hunting Tips - Flameborn Quillshot

  • The Flameborn Quillshot's spines are made of volatile blaze archonite. If you manage to dodge them, keep moving. The spines will explode within seconds.
  • If you can't get out of the way in time, you can use your weapon to knock the Flameborn Quillshot's spines away.
    • The spines will detonate wherever they come back down, causing explosive damage to island, creature, and Behemoth. It's time to turn slugger, Slayer. Angle your hit just right and you can even send those missiles right back whence they came—the Flameborn Quillshot itself.
  • Since its volatile spines can also damage other creatures, consider slaying the Flameborn Quillshot last in a multiple-Behemoth fight. If carefully managed (and deflected) they'll provide a welcome boost of extra firepower when you need it most.
