Honkai Star Rail - Trailblaze Power Fuel - When should you use it?

Honkai Star Rail gives you units of "Fuel", which are basically consumables that restore 60 units of Trailblaze Power.

But when should you use it?

Short answer: Use your Fuel when you can farm instances at the highest difficulty level.

Why? Well, that's the long answer. Let's start with an examination of what Trailblaze Power means.

What is Trailblaze Power?

Trailblaze Power is used for repeatable content to get various types of equipment (e.g., Relics) and materials (e.g., Ascension materials).

When you spend your Trailblaze Power in this way, you also get Trailblaze EXP. Every 10 units of Trailblaze Power ends up also giving you 50 units of Trailblaze EXP.

This means Trailblaze Power is also important for increasing your Equilibrium Level. And Equilibrium Level determines the type of reward you can get from the repeatable content.

So why not spend your Fuel immediately? After all, it also inches you toward a higher Equilibrium Level since each unit of Fuel is 60 Trailblaze Power, which will give you 300 Trailblaze EXP when spent.

Daily Training Activity also gives you Trailblaze EXP

An additional consideration is Daily Training Activity. Each 100 points of Daily Training Activity gives you 200 to 350 Trailblaze EXP, so if you can complete the daily cap of 500 points, you will get 1000 to 1750 Trailblaze EXP. This is in addition to the 1200 from the 240 Trailblaze Power you basically get every 24 hours/1 day.

Daily Training Activity therefore pushes you toward the next Equilibrium level, but without giving you a broad range of useful equipment or materials to actually improve your characters. This is actually better than simply using Fuel.

Let's assume that you diligently use your daily allotment of Trailblaze Power, and you do so wisely to get what you need for each character. It is probable that you can have a competent team to clear the basic repeatable content at the highest difficulty tier available to you, including Calyxes and Stagnant Shadows, which have the basic upgrade materials required.

This in turn means that unless you are trying to fully develop too many characters, you have more materials than you need, even if your characters are not yet outfitted with the best Light Cones, Relics, and Traces at the highest possible level.

Therefore, spending Fuel would just get you more of what you don't really need. And doing one unnecessary Calyx at Equilibrium 3 costs the same amount of Trailblaze Power as the same Calyx at Equilibrium 5. So why not wait till a higher Equilibrium level?

Relics

Some people do like gambling for good gear, however, and will try their luck at the random relic drops, hoping for something with a great primary stat like a bonus to damage for a particular element. There's no telling how many tries you'll need to get that one good drop, so if you are desperate to push your character power as much as possible, then burning Fuel gets you those additional tries.

We recommend you do a few runs here and there with regular Trailblaze Power for Relics, but only to get enough of a set for set bonuses. Anything other than gold-rarity Relics will ultimately be recycled no matter their stats but in the meantime you can outfit key characters with appropriate sets. Once you have unlocked the highest difficulty Caverns of Corrosion, you can run them all you like with the best chance available to you of gold-rarity Relics.

For Simulated Universe Relics, try to wait until Equilibrium 2 if you can. You will receive four free Immersifiers each week -- meaning you can try for some starter Relics without burning any Trailblaze Power or Fuel.

Echo of War and Simulated Universe weeklies

You are limited to three Echo of War attempts each week, so if you are very close to the next Equilibrium level, you might consider burning Fuel to reach it before doing your weekly Echo of War.

Simulated Universe has a weekly reward based on accumulated activity. This is determined at the start of the week and is based on your Equilibrium level at the start of the week. So if you are very close to the next Equilibrium level and can reach it before the next week, you might want to try for it, especially Equilibrium level 2+, when the weekly reward includes four Immersifiers (which are basically worth 40 Trailblaze Power each, or 160 in total).

Two Healers and Forgotten Hall

The one great exception is Forgotten Hall. If you have two healers, you can do some of the later harder stages (12+). You might not pass with three stars, but as long as you can finish Stage 15, you will qualify for Memory of Chaos.

Memory of Chaos is of course even harder and requires two teams -- hence you probably need two healers -- but the rewards refresh every week, so you can use it to farm a little Stellar Jade.

Forgotten Hall Stage 15 has level 65 enemies (Equilibrium 4) and depending on how well your teams are geared, you might still only just squeak by and not even be able to pass any Memory of Chaos stages. Memory of Chaos Stage 1 has level 68 bosses, so you might want to go in with level 70+ / Equilibrium 5 characters anyway.
