Game Review - AER Memories of Old

Game Review: AER Memories of Old by Forgotten Key
Score: +3/-1
Transform into a bird and fly to explore and experience a vibrant world of floating islands in the sky. Venture down into lost ancient ruins where each step leads you closer to the end of the world.

+ AER Memories of Old features a really nice bird-flying experience in an epic-sized world so you can really soar around. Just this part -- how the flight handles as well as the game world -- would actually make a totally awesome VR experience.
+ But there's something empty about simply flying around, so there's also an intriguing story that is well told in poetic texts and with some touching moments especially in its emotionally charged finish. I do have a personal bias with how they ended it, but the nature of the ending could also be very intentional given some deliberate vagueness as you piece together what has gone before and what your role is now.
+The main "game" aspects are in exploring the world looking for mission locations because the puzzle and platforming are so trivial as to be relaxing. If that's what you're looking for in a game, then AER is for you. There's nothing really frustrating or tricky here even if you normally hate platformers. And nothing buggy at all, which is more than you can say for a lot of titles nowadays. The gameplay experience was smooth from start to finish.
-There's also not that much gameplay here in terms of how long it plays and how much you can replay, but this is more or less also reflected in the price.
