Ascending / Looking Around
When you are mounted on your Familiar, your personal Stamina (the character's Stamina) recovers.
When your Familiar is in Swimming mode, but is NOT MOVING, they consume NO STAMINA.
This means you can swim with your personal Stamina, then mount your Familiar and NOT MOVE to recover your Stamina, then dismount your Familiar and swim again. You can basically do this indefinitely.
However you CANNOT DIVE without a Familiar. When you are not on your Familiar, you slowly ascend. You can swim around but you constantly ascend a bit at a time. To ascend faster, you can swim into a surface.
A useful place for this is Ruins Beneath the Waves, a special dungeon where the Level 40 boss drops only mining resources. You cannot Fast Travel to it but you can apparently farm it infinitely.
The shipwreck nearby has some chests. Use the trick mentioned to explore it, and when your Familiar is low on Stamina, enter the dungeon to recover Familiar Stamina, then Quit the dungeon to exit and explore more.
There is a second dungeon with the same level, layout, and drops. Thanks to this video for revealing it.
Diving
In Dragonsword: Awakening, you can find a secret skin basically at the bottom of the Trench of Secrets and nearby there is a hidden boss that drops a lot of materials you can normally mine. The depth is extreme and you must use a Familiar in order to dive -- if you try to swim, your character slowly ascends no matter what.
Two foods really help:
- Egg Renew
- Ingredients: 1-3 Eggs
- Method: Slicing
- Restores Familiar Stamina
- Assorted Sashimi
- Ingredients: Meat + Fish + Grain
- Method: Slicing
- Familiar Gliding/Swimming Stamina consumption reduced
We acquired the Skin and defeated the Boss with around 5 of each (but depends on the star rating of what you make) but to have a less scary time and flexibility to look around, bring more Egg Renew so you can collect Chests and Books (in bubbles).
