This is part of our series of beginner tips for Disney Dreamlight Valley. We won't do a hand-holding walkthrough here, but instead consider approaches that might be unusual or overlooked.
General Tips for Character Roles
- Plan ahead
- I find it's useful to make notes on who you want to be in each role early. This way, you can make sure you have all the Roles covered by Characters in the early game when you don't have a lot of Characters yet..
- Plus you can help yourself remember who has what Role by assigning them to a role you can easily remember. For example, the character who teaches you fishing might be useful to assign to the Fishing Role.
- If the Character you need seems to be sleeping in their home frequently when you play, research character schedules to see who's sleeping at what time.
- Game time is synced with your real time, so if you play only during a limited time window each day, some characters might often be asleep and you might be stuck with rarely or never accessing their Role.
- Early articles you find online might say there is no way to change Roles, but in fact you CAN, with Training Manuals.
- However in the early to mid game the material cost can be tedious to assemble.
- Getting a character to max level isn't hard, but sometimes grinding the required materials for the Training Manual can be, and just wastes your time.
- Gardening -- repeatedly planting and watering crops in massive amounts -- is a fairly good way to rush the level of any Character.
- When a Character gets a bonus item, they typically try to walk to where the gathering node was and throw out an item in your general direction.
- This can be delayed because they need to walk there, so especially when you are Foraging, you need to be aware if it happened.
- The item glows only for a while. During this glow period, running over it will automatically pick it up. After that you need to hunt around for it.
- For Gardening (farming) and when you are Foraging all your fruit trees at once, there is a trick to delay all the drops so you get them all at once after you are done harvesting, instead of scrambling around to get the drops sprinkled all around you -- see our post on Gardening tips.
- If you are just trying to level a Character, Gardening is probably your best bet for all characters once you have exhausted Daily Discussions, Gifts, and filling orders at Chez Remy. Since you don't get extra crops from planting seeds or watering crops, you might as well use that to level any Character.
