VR Review: 1943 Berlin Blitz by BBC / Immersive VR Education
Played with Oculus Quest 2.
1943 Berlin Blitz has you riding along inside a bomber on a mission. Overall it is actually quite boring because basically the bomber returns home unscathed. The value of this VR experience is the attempt at historical accuracy and the immersion of VR to help you understand "what it was like". Not just the mission, but just being inside a bomber. And looking outside in a way that none of the crew really ever could.
Although you can play this seated, it is recommended that you switch between sitting and standing as appropriate. You will often want to stand up and look at things literally from outside the bomber, especially as it flies over the mission location so you can look around and at the ground far below.
It's a very short experience and based on a real, vivid report, nothing embellished for dramatic effect.
Have a good look around during the mission and as you return home, realize that some of the other bombers that didn't make it -- they could easily have been the bomber you were on.
Without that realization and reflection on the implications, even simply trying to immerse yourself as one of the crew in that bomber will feel boring and pointless.
