Planning Your Characters and Account: Supporting Crafters
Supporting Crafters are mainly to get you income in the form of gold from Daily Writs, materials from Daily Writs and Hirelings, and Recipes from Provisioning Daily Writs.
In the early game, Supporting Crafters can master some of the crafts that require less commitment to a character, such as Alchemy and Enchanting, as they do not require Trait Research, Motifs, or Recipes. You will eventually want to master all crafts on one Main Crafter, however, especially if you want to make Furnishings, which often require knowledge of multiple crafts.
Choosing Race, Alliance, and Class
After creating your main adventuring toon/Main Crafter, the remaining character slots can be used to create Supporting Crafters.

- The Craftstore AddOn helps you manage multiple Crafters and is highly recommended.
- Dolgubon's Lazy Writ Crafter speeds up a lot of the steps involved in Daily Writs and is also highly recommended.
When researching Traits on Armor, Weapons, and Jewelry, the first trait is the fastest. So if you spread them out over your Supporting Crafters, you can know many traits on many pieces of gear. When you start focussing on one Main Crafter, you can make whatever item-trait combination you need instead of scrambling around looking for an item or holding on to items for research later (and taking up valuable inventory space).
- You may want to create one of every type of character Class in case you want to try that class later.
- You may want to have all your characters be of the same Alliance. This helps with Daily Writs for Provisioning Ranks I-III as each Alliance requires a separate set of recipes for daily writs of those Ranks.
- Before you do this, you may want to create (and later delete) characters of the other Alliances, and quickly do the housing quest "Room to Spare" to get your free apartments.
- If you don't care about Race, you can make them all Orcs for the Inspiration Bonus, or Khajiit if you want to cross-train them into thieves later.
- If you don't care about Class, you might want to consider Nightblades for their unique ability to Stealth with a skill. This can help you move them around (e.g., to get Skyshards) without too much combat.
Getting More Character Slots
New accounts start with eight character slots. You can of course get more Character Slots with Crowns; however when you have more gold in the mid to late game, you can buy more Character Slots by finding someone willing to gift you a Character Slot in exchange for gold. If you are having trouble finding a reputable seller, you can try the World Crown Exchange Discord.
Levelling Without Combat or Gear
Aside from asking to get carried through content, you can easily level your Supporting Crafters in various ways:
- Dolmens in Alik'r: There are typically so many people that you see some literally not doing anything except stand around and get hit by lightning, which would qualify them for rewards. You can go there, shoot a couple of times, and qualify for the completion XP and loot chest.
- Thieves Guild Tip Board Covetous Countess quests: These become literally just delivery missions once you have amassed enough of a stock of items that qualify for the turn-ins. And you can do that by doing this mission because it rewards you Treasures that could qualify. The more you do, the easier it becomes.
